(Click on an image to go to a larger version) Cirencester Civil Engineering was delighted to be asked to re-surface the Stables Courtyard at Chatsworth House. This has formed part of an on going plan for improvements and repairs on the Estate. The Stables or Quad area forms a much visited area by tourists and required as little disruption as possible. Works to the Stables involved removal of manhole covers and replacement with new recessed manhole covers and frames. Tar macadam to specifications was laid and sealed with CCE sealant. The final surface dressing was laid using 2-4mm Corn Flint in Addastone resin. The choice of aggregate was made by the now Dowager Duchess of Devonshire after a visit to Buxton Pavilion Gardens, where Cirencester Civil Engineering had laid the resin bonded surfacing extensively. The aggregate was chosen not only for it’s golden colouring which enhanced the mellow stone in the pillars and walls of the grand building, but also, (being an angular stone) for it’s slip resistant properties, for when the surface might get wet of frozen in winter months. We are looking forward to returning for the next stage of works in the near future. ENDS April 2004 |
