(Click on an image to go to a larger version) Cirencester Civil Engineering was contracted to re-surface Leicester’s 200 year old “New Walk” thoroughfare as part of a £2 million lottery funded restoration project. Building Conservation officer for Leicester City Council, David Trubshaw explained, “The original walkway was surfaced with loose gravel. The brief was to re-create this appearance whilst providing a surface more suited to its use today. Resin bond gravel is the perfect solution as it gives the appearance of loose gravel yet the substrate is fully bonded so the associated problems are eliminated.” Cirencester Civil Engineering applied the resin bond surface using a 2-5mm Corn Flint to complement the surrounding environment. As it is a fully bonded surface it provides the council with a durable, slip-retardant walkway that is also easy to maintain. Everyone at CCE Surfacing and the Council agreed that the new surface looked superb. Resin bound aggregate is ideal for this type of application and the council is extremely pleased with both the aesthetics and performance of the surface. Mike Sugg, Director of Cirencester Civil Engineering Ltd. claims that resin bonded gravel can be used for many landscape solutions such as footpaths, driveways, car parks and heritage sites. A wide variety of natural and recycled aggregates are available as well as a range of resin colours that can be used to blend with, or complement the aggregate. ENDS July 2004 |
